2025 1 oz Gold Eagle Coin
The 1 ounce Gold Eagle coin was the first official bullion Gold coin released from the United States Mint. The US Gold coin symbolizes freedom and tradition with its iconic design. The American Eagle bullion program, introduced in 1986, features annual releases of Gold and Silver Eagle coins each January, denoted by the year of issue. In recent years, the mint has also added a Platinum and Palladium variant to the series.
2025 1 oz Gold Eagle Coin Design
The 1 ounce Gold Eagle coin obverse showcases the iconic depiction of Lady Liberty, first seen on the $20 Saint-Gauden's Liberty Gold coin. Created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens at the request of President Roosevelt, this design is celebrated as one of the most exquisite coin designs, embodying ideals of freedom and progress. Lady Liberty stands with a flaming torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, while the word "LIBERTY" graces the top of the coin. The United States Capitol dome and radiant sun rays complete the picturesque scene.
Commemorating the American Eagle's 35th anniversary in 2021, the US Mint introduced a new reverse design, often referred to as the "Type 2" design, for the Gold Eagle coin. This new reverse design features a close-up view of the majestic bald eagle, reflecting a fresh perspective. Designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon, the new design incorporates security features for heightened assurance.
As a 22-karat (0.9167) fine Gold coin, the 1 oz Gold Eagle total coin weight slightly exceeds 1 troy ounce due to the inclusion of alloys like copper and silver. This alloy composition enhances the coin's durability, setting it apart from 24-karat (0.999+) fine Gold coins.
